Warren’s Eye: Paintings From the Vintage Bank – Petaluma Arts Center, 2018

Curated by Jude Mooney

The Vintage Bank was a massive antique collective located in the heart of Petaluma, owned by Judith Helman and Warren Davis. Warren had an eye for collecting paintings, and over the years he amassed thousands of paintings from yard sales, auctions, and flea markets. His collection was focused on California landscapes, but over the years grew to include abstract, folk, and what you might call kitsch.

Art collectors and curators would go to Warren to buy, sell, and discuss art. Visitors, locals and tourists, enjoyed the iconic building that was covered floor to ceiling with art in a hodge-podge kind of way. Warren’s passing in 2018 prompted this exhibition which represents a small selection of his eclectic collection.
